Half Marathon #2: So It Begins

I’ll be running my second half marathon on Sunday, October 9, 2011, in gorgeous Portland, OR.

SQUEEE!

I get to run with some great friends. I get to raise money for a great cause. I get to run…a lot.

I realized yesterday it’s only twelve weeks away! I’m going to follow a slightly modified version of Hal Higdon’s Novice Half Marathon Plan. My weeks will look roughly like this:

Sun – stretch/strength
Mon – run, 3-5 miles
Tue – run, 2 miles speed, and strength
Wed – run, 3-5 miles
Thu –  cross training. I am going to try to commit to the 12:00 spin class at the work gym.
Fri – rest day. my second-favorite.
Sat – long run day. my favorite. with a 5k on week 2 and Warrior Dash on week 9.

I’ll log about 200 miles in training, which should put me well over 500 for the year (a big goal for me).  If everything goes according to plan. As I learned the last time: it won’t. And that’s OK.

Do I have a goal for this race? I’d really like to run it in 2:10. That’s only a 10:00-mile pace. I can do that. I know I can. I want to be faster. I just don’t know how I’m going to get there.

So, here’s to another 12 weeks of insanity and exhaustion, and an amazing race to look forward to at the end!
