About Jes

Hello! My name is Jes Borland. I live, work and play in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin. My passions are SQL Server, running, cooking, coffee and the Jaycees. I hope to share my love of all of them here.

I graduated Fox Valley Technical College in December 2008, earning my AAS – IT Programmer/Analyst, with an emphasis in PC Programming and Database Design.

I am currently a SQL Server DBA. I started on the help desk, worked on SQL Server Reporting Services, and am now a Database Administrator. I’m a member of PASS, the WI SQL Server User Group and MADPASS.

I love to run. I started with the Couch-to-5K program in July 2009, and fell in love. I like to write about my training and my races, and inspire other people to buy a pair of shoes and hit the roads. I ran my first 5K in October 2009, my first 10K in October 2010 and my first half marathon in April 2011. I was not meant to stand still.

I love to play in my kitchen as well. I started cooking and baking with my mom and grandma as a kid, and have loved it ever since. It’s my hands-on hobby. There is nothing more relaxing to me after a long day at work than coming home and cooking a great meal. (Well, other than eating it!)

I have been a dedicated member of the Oshkosh Jaycees since November 2003. I’ve held the positions of board member, Secretary, Membership Vice President, and President. I’ve met a lot of amazing people, worked on a lot of amazing events that have touched people’s lives, and made a difference in the community. I’ve also learned more about project and people management than I thought possible.

I’m also a bookworm, a camper, a hiker and an all-around geek. Feel free to look around and ask questions!
